There’s fresh political buzz in Nasarawa State as a Labour Party faction moves to open up the electoral race in a rather unusual way—by giving out nomination forms for free.
According to cbinews.tv, the Labour Party group aligned with the Julius Abure-led camp has started distributing free expression of interest and nomination forms to members and prospective candidates.
Speaking in Lafia, state chairman Alexander Ombugu said the initiative covers governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly positions.
He explained that the decision is aimed at reducing financial pressure on aspirants and encouraging broader participation in party politics.
“The Labour Party belongs to the people,” he said, adding that the gesture reflects the party’s commitment to inclusiveness.
Ombugu also acknowledged ongoing internal leadership disagreements involving Julius Abure and Senator Nenadi Usman, but insisted that preparations for the 2027 elections are still on track.
Primaries are scheduled for 27–29 May, with governorship and State Assembly elections holding on 27 May, while senatorial and House of Reps primaries come up on 29 May.
He further disclosed that a bye-election for Nasarawa North Senatorial District, set for 20 June 2026 by INEC, will have its party primary on 25 May following the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki.
Ombugu assured members that all processes will be transparent and peaceful.
