Another heartbreaking abduction has hit Nigeria’s schools — and this time, students across the North-East are taking to the streets to demand action.
Right, so here’s what’s happening — as reported by cbinews.tv. The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Zone E (North-East) isn’t staying quiet after 42 students were abducted from Government Day Secondary School, Mussa, in Askira/Uba LGA, Borno State, cbinewstv reports.
They’ve announced a 3-day peaceful protest kicking off from 5th to 7th June. And it’s not just in one spot — it’ll be happening simultaneously across Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba.
According to a notice from Lukman Yusuf, Chief of Staff to the NANS Zone E Coordinator, the goal is simple: get the nation’s attention focused on these students and push the Federal Government and security agencies to step up efforts to bring them home immediately.
It’s also about standing with the families and making it clear that schools need to be safer. The statement put it plainly: “The demonstration is aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the abducted students, expressing solidarity with their families, and calling on the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts towards their immediate rescue.”
NANS is urging the FG to beef up security in schools to stop these attacks from happening again. They’ve also told all their North-East structures — Joint Campus Committee leaders, SUG executives, delegates and stakeholders — to mobilise students but keep everything peaceful and orderly.
Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Muazu Hina, said NANS is fully committed to seeing these students return safely and to pushing for better security for learners across Nigeria.
Bottom line? The association wants to keep public eyes on this incident and back every effort to secure the victims’ release.
