Big win for technical education in Nigeria — NABTEB has just dropped its 2026 results, and the numbers are looking seriously impressive.

In a major boost for vocational and business education, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has officially released the 2026 June/July National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) results.

And it’s good news all round.

According to cbinews.tv, NABTEB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Aminu Mohammed, announced the results on Wednesday in Benin, revealing that a total of 79,503 candidates — representing 81.24% of the 97,863 candidates graded — secured at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

That’s a massive leap from last year. In 2025, only 68.18% — that’s 61,104 candidates — managed to hit that same benchmark. We’re talking about a jump of over 13 percentage points in just one year.

It gets even better. Dr Mohammed disclosed that 89,580 candidates, or 91.53%, scored five credits and above with or without English and Maths. Out of the 100,069 who registered, 97,867 actually sat for the exams, giving us a 97.80% attendance rate. And 24,128 candidates have now been certified as craftsmen.

What’s behind the surge?

For some context, NABTEB isn’t your regular exam body. It was established in 1992 under Decree No. 70 of 1993 to domesticate craft-level examinations that were hitherto conducted by foreign bodies like City & Guilds, Pittman’s and the Royal Society of Arts, all of the UK.

Unlike WAEC, it’s a Nigeria-only board focused strictly on technical, vocational and business-related education, and for decades it has been central to producing Nigeria’s skilled workforce.

So, this year’s performance matters. For years, NABTEB results have hovered around the 60-70% mark for five credits including English and Maths. To now hit over 81% suggests the board’s recent reforms — including its 2025 initiative to review and validate 26 trade syllabi covering smart agriculture, coding and robotics, and solar PV installation — are actually paying off.

There’s also progress on examination integrity. The board recorded 847 candidates involved in 1,554 malpractice cases, which is just 1.55% of those who sat. That’s lower than the 2025 figure, and NABTEB says its new anti-malpractice measures are yielding results.

And for candidates who have been anxiously waiting? The turnaround was quite swift. The 2026 results were released just 52 days after the final paper, which the board described as part of its commitment to timely service delivery.

One final word of warning from the Registrar: candidates should only use NABTEB’s authorised result-checking platform. No one can upgrade your result for you — so steer clear of fraudsters promising to do so.
