Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reaffirmed his resolve to restore peace in Plateau State after visiting communities devastated by recent attacks, assuring residents that perpetrators will be brought to justice and security will be strengthened across affected areas.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Monday paid a solidarity visit to the Nding community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, following a violent attack that left several people dead and many families displaced.
According to reports from cbinews.tv, the governor was received by the Executive Chairman of Barkin Ladi LGA, Stephen Pwajok, and met with widows, children, and survivors, where he offered condolences and reassurances of government support.
Mutfwang declared firmly that the community would not be abandoned, stating, “Nding community will not go down,” while emphasizing that his administration had been actively engaging security agencies since the incident began.
Accompanied by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, along with other officials, the governor commended security operatives for preventing further escalation of violence and warned that any compromised personnel would be investigated and prosecuted.
At a security stakeholders’ meeting in Barkin Ladi, attended by traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and community representatives, the governor vowed that those responsible for the killings across Plateau State would face justice.
He also reinforced existing security and social regulations, including the ban on night mining activities and night grazing, as well as restrictions against underage herding, urging livestock owners to take full responsibility.
Mutfwang further directed security agencies to intensify surveillance and intelligence operations, while assuring farmers of improved protection ahead of the planting season, alongside fertilizer subsidies to boost agricultural productivity.
He appealed to the media to promote balanced reporting to sustain Plateau’s reputation as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”
During the visit, the governor also proceeded to Ngbrazongo village in Kwall District of Irigwe Chiefdom in Bassa LGA, where he sympathized with victims of another recent attack and promised enhanced security deployment to prevent recurrence.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Bernard Doro, pledged federal government support through humanitarian relief and recovery interventions, while local leaders and youth groups commended the governor’s swift response and commitment to peacebuilding.
Plateau State has continued to experience recurring violence in parts of Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos, and Mangu LGAs, resulting in significant loss of lives, displacement of residents, and destruction of farmlands.
