As the fast concludes, Plateau State's religious clerics and teachers' message is one of urgency and hope: a final opportunity to erase past shortcomings and secure a place in Paradise..
As Muslims across the globe enter the most sacred ten days of Ramadan, Islamic faithfuls in Plateau State have been urged to intensify their worship.
They emphasise the unparalleled rewards of this period and the significance of the tradition of spiritual seclusion.
Ummil-Salma Yahaya, a teacher, highlights the importance of the last ten days of Ramadan, which are among the most important parts of the month. She said it is within these days that the Night of Destiny is found. Similarly, Habeebullah Olamilekan, another teacher, said it is in the holy month that the glorious Quran was revealed.
Ajakaye Ibrahim, a teacher based in Jos, and Dr Yusuf Abdullahi, a lecturer in the Department of Religion and Philosophy at the University of Jos, explained that Prophet Muhammad used to wake up his entire family for prayers and supplication during the last ten days in search of the Night of Destiny. While Ibrahim described the last ten days as a "bonanza time" where rewards are multiplied.
Speaking on the significance of the last ten days in an exclusive interview with CBI News Dr. Nazeef Yunus, an Islamic cleric, described all the days in the month of Ramadan as very important. He added that among these days comes a special night, the "Night of Destiny," during which the reward for every prayer is equivalent to that of eighty-three years of worship.
Another significant lesson being highlighted is the practice of seclusion (I'tikaf). Scholars say that confining oneself to the mosque for the last ten days, dedicating all time to prayer, Quranic recitation, and meditation, is a powerful Sunnah.
Ajakaye Ibrahim said that Prophet Muhammad secluded himself and his family for prayers and supplications. While Dr Yunus added that seclusion is a process where a believer is expected to camp in a Friday mosque and separate himself from all worldly affairs purely for prayers and supplication.
