Bellarmine Mugabe and bodyguard face additional charges after shooting in Johannesburg.
The youngest son of Zimbabwe’s late former president Robert Mugabe has been formally charged with attempted murder in a South African court.
Bellarmine Mugabe was arrested last week after a 23-year-old man was shot and injured at a property in an upmarket Johannesburg suburb.
He was taken into custody along with his bodyguard. Neither has commented on the charges.
Police searching the property recovered bullet cartridges but have not yet found a firearm.
Bellarmine is the youngest son of Robert and his second wife Grace Mugabe. Robert Mugabe, who died in 2019, ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years before being forced from power in 2017.
Prosecutors said both Bellarmine and the bodyguard face two additional charges, including defeating the ends of justice, related to the missing firearm.
The victim remains in hospital in critical condition.
The case has been postponed until 3 March, when a bail application will be considered.
