The AI infrastrcuture project aligns with Morocco’s “Digital 2030” strategy, which seeks to raise the digital sector’s contribution to 5 percent of GDP, generate around 270,000 jobs, support the creation of 3,000 startups, and accelerate public sector digitisation.
Morocco has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a $1.28 billion artificial intelligence infrastructure project aimed at expanding its digital economy and strengthening national computing capacity.
The agreement, concluded between Nexus Core Systems and several Moroccan government institutions, was announced during the GITEX Africa 2026 technology conference in Marrakech. It brings together the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, the Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Public Policy Evaluation, and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE).
The project, known as the “Nexus AI Factory Platform,” will be developed in phases and is designed to combine a high-performance computing data centre, an AI training and knowledge transfer hub, and an innovation centre focused on developing advanced digital solutions.
Officials say the first phase will involve an investment of 5 billion Moroccan dirhams to build a 16-megawatt facility in the Nouaceur region. A second phase will add a further 7 billion dirhams and expand capacity by an additional 20 megawatts at a separate site.
CBI News reports that the initiative is expected to create 125 direct jobs by 2027, while also contributing to broader workforce development in artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
The project aligns with Morocco’s “Digital 2030” strategy, which seeks to raise the digital sector’s contribution to 5 percent of GDP, generate around 270,000 jobs, support the creation of 3,000 startups, and accelerate public sector digitisation.
Government officials described the agreement as a milestone in strengthening Morocco’s technological sovereignty and digital infrastructure. Nexus Core Systems said the facility would help build an integrated AI ecosystem capable of supporting both domestic and international operations.
