Orgainsers call for respect for event protocols and the privacy of invited guests....
The Miss Nigeria Organisation on Tuesday apologised to veteran actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde following a viral video showing an awkward exchange with a young presenter at the 46th Miss Nigeria Patrons & Board Dinner.
The organisation said the presenter involved in the clip was not invited to the private event and had no official affiliation with the dinner, which it described as strictly invite-only and not open to unauthorised media coverage.
“First and foremost, we wish to publicly extend our sincerest apologies to Omotola for the discomfort she experienced. She is a deeply valued member of the Miss Nigeria community, a close friend of the organisation, and a woman who has spent decades paving the way for young creatives in this country. She deserves the utmost respect and care,” the statement said.
It added that uninvited media presence can create impromptu situations where both guests and interviewers are caught off guard.
Following a review, the organisation said the circulating video did not reflect the full context of the incident.
“There were multiple individuals involved who repeatedly invaded Omotola’s personal space, making her feel deeply uncomfortable and unsafe. The clip that has been shared was edited and does not reflect the full extent of what occurred,” it said.
The organisation condemned approaches made to guests without authorisation, describing such conduct as unacceptable.
“Omotola was gracious enough to engage in good faith, and that goodwill was taken advantage of,” the statement added.
In the video, the presenter is heard saying, “Alright, welcome to 2026 Miss Nigeria dinner. I am currently live with…?” prompting Omotola to question his approach.
“You are here with who? I should tell you my name? You are not ready,” she replied. When he attempted to clarify, she said, “Why should I let fans know me? I am tired,” before initially walking away. A later clip showed her granting the interview while seated.
The organisation urged the media and public to respect event protocols and the privacy of invited guests, while encouraging support for Omotola’s new film, Mother’s Love, with proceeds going to Slum2School Africa.
