The state of Minnesota, along with the municipal governments of Minneapolis and St Paul, filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security, seeking to halt federal enforcement operations in the region...
Violent clashes were seen in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 16, 2025, after a second ICE shooting in a week.
Law enforcement agents were seen with stun grenades and tear gas.
Protesters faced off with ICE agents, attacked vehicles and threw projectiles.
The protest came after reports that a Venezuelan national was shot in the leg by an ICE agent. The Department of Homeland Security said the agent opened fire after being threatened by at least three people, which included the man who was shot.
The wounded man was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries, and the two others were arrested.
On January 7, 2026, 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was shot dead by an ICE agent in the same city. The incident sparked huge protests.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the officer involved.
She claimed Good had 'weaponised her vehicle' against agents.
Noem described her actions as an 'act of domestic terrorism.'
President Donald Trump said Good was 'very disorderly' in a post on his Truth Social platform.
He accused her of 'obstruction and resistance'.
Trump also claimed Good 'violently, willfully and viciously ran over the ICE officer.'
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz urged the public not to 'believe this propaganda machine,' calling for a full, fair and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice.
