The Government of Mexico reiterates its support for Cuba after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order which threatened tariffs on countries that supply oil to the island...
Two Mexican vessels from the Secretariat of the Navy arrived in Cuba on Thursday February 12, 2026, part of the humanitarian aid provided to the island amid the oil blockade maintained by the United States.
Footage captured in Havana showed the arrival of one of the vessels that departed from Mexican territory on Sunday February 8, 2026.
A total of 814 tons of food and necessities were reportedly sent through the ships Papaloapan and Isla Holbox.
"It once again demonstrates the brotherhood that exists between Cuba and Mexico," said Humberto Valdespino, a fisherman who watched the arrival of the vessels.
"Mexico is with us. Mexico knows how things are. Besides, we have brotherhood," he added.
Juan Areas, another local, thanked Mexico for the aid, noting that Cuba is facing a fuel shortage due to pressure exerted by US President Donald Trump.
"And with Trump finishing us off without giving us the oil aid that was given to Venezuela, to other countries, we are already with a rope around our neck. We need that aid," he stated.
For his part, Eugenio Martinez, Cuba's Ambassador to Mexico, thanked the government of Claudia Sheinbaum for the aid donated to the Cuban population through a post on his X account.
Meanwhile, Claudia Sheinbaum on Thursday February 12, 2026, said that the arrival of the two vessels signalled Mexico's continued support to the Cuban people.
