Nine league titles, and now every single player gets a plot of land in Enugu. You love to see it.
Right, let's talk about proper reward for hard work.
Governor Peter Mbah didn't just roll out the red carpet for Rangers International FC on Wednesday, he opened the state treasury too. After receiving the newly crowned champions in Enugu, he announced a massive package to honour their 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League triumph.
Here's the breakdown, and it's generous:
Every Rangers player gets a plot of land in Enugu
The playing squad shares ₦100 million in cash
The management team gets ₦50 million
Plus extra plots of land for the general manager, club secretary, head coach and assistant coach.
Mbah made it official on his X handle, and he was clearly buzzing:
"What a season. What a team. They brought the trophy home again in style. As a token of that appreciation, I announced a plot of land in Enugu for each player, a cash reward of ₦100 million for the team, ₦50 million for the management, and additional plots of land for the general manager, secretary, coach, and assistant coach. They have earned it, every bit of it.
This is what pride in Enugu looks like. This is what belief in our own looks like. And today, I am truly happy."
And honestly, they earned it. Rangers sealed their ninth NPFL crown in dramatic fashion on Sunday, beating Ikorodu City FC 2-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on the final day.
That win puts the Flying Antelopes level with Enyimba on nine titles each, making them joint most successful clubs in Nigerian top-flight history.
It was tight, too. Rivers United did their bit with a 3-0 win over Katsina United, but Rangers just edged them in the final standings in one of the closest title races we've seen in years.
The result means Rangers and Rivers United will both fly Nigeria's flag in next season's CAF Champions League, while Shooting Stars, who finished third, have booked a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Another chapter written, another trophy in the cabinet, and now, a bit of Enugu real estate to go with it.
