Mayweather and Pacquiao will rematch on September 19 at the Sphere in Las Vegas...
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to meet again in September for a rematch of their historic 2015 showdown, with Netflix confirming it will stream the bout live from the Sphere in Las Vegas.
The fight is scheduled for September 19 and will mark the first professional boxing event to be staged at the Sphere, the futuristic venue opened in 2023 that is known for its immersive wraparound interior screen and large-scale sporting and entertainment events.
The original fight, billed as the “Fight of the Century,” took place in 2015 and broke financial records, drawing 4.6 million pay-per-view buys and generating over $600 million in revenue.
CBI News reports that Mayweather, who won on points, reportedly earned around $300 million from that bout.
More than a decade later, both fighters remain active in public interest despite being in their late forties.
Speculation around a rematch increased after Mayweather recently announced he would come out of retirement again.
In a joint statement, Pacquiao said, “Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history. The fans have waited long enough, they deserve this rematch.”
The Filipino boxing legend added, “I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him.”
He also said he dedicates the fight “to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bring glory to the Philippines.”
Mayweather responded by dismissing any expectation of a different outcome, saying, “I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result.”
Although Mayweather officially retired in 2017, he has remained active through exhibition fights.
Pacquiao, who retired in 2021 to pursue a presidential run in the Philippines, returned to the ring last year after a four-year break, drawing a draw against Mario Barrios in Las Vegas.
