Big moves from across the pond – the US is gearing up to send over 100 Nigerians packing, and we’ve got the details.
So, here’s what’s happening, according to cbinews.tv. The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed plans to deport at least 110 Nigerians from the US.
This isn’t just about Nigeria though. It’s part of a much bigger crackdown targeting 355 West Africans in total. The DHS actually dropped a full list under its West Africa Operations Watch initiative – names and photos included.
Nigeria’s got the highest number on the list at 110. Liberia follows with 94, while Ghana and Senegal have 30 and 19 respectively.
The rest of the list? It breaks down like this:
- Cameroon: 15
- The Gambia: 14
- Côte d’Ivoire: 14
- Mauritania: 12
- Cape Verde: 11
- Burkina Faso: 9
- Niger: 8
- Guinea: 6
- Togo: 6
- Mali: 5
- Benin: 1
- Guinea-Bissau: 1
As cbinews.tv reports, the DHS says those flagged were picked up for immigration violations – think visa overstays, unlawful entry, and not meeting residency requirements.
US officials are calling it a coordinated operation running across several states.
