Pep’s out, Enzo’s in — and he’s not exactly new to the Etihad.
Right, big news out of Manchester this Monday, as per cbinews.tv: Manchester City have officially unveiled Enzo Maresca as their new gaffer, taking the reins from Pep Guardiola.
The 46-year-old Italian has put pen to paper on a three-year deal that’ll keep him at the Etihad until summer 2029. And if the name rings a bell, that’s because this is actually his third spell with City — he knows the place inside out.
Speaking after the announcement, Maresca couldn’t hide his excitement:
“Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me,” he said.
He’s had stints with Leicester in the Championship and Chelsea in the Premier League, but clearly City’s setup is what gets him going:
“City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation. It provides the consistency I need to do my job effectively.”
He’s under no illusions about what’s expected either:
“I know the demands, and I know the expectations. The quality of the people who work here is what makes it so special, and I want to thank them for showing faith in my ability.”
And his message to the fans? Straight to the point:
“I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City.”
So, a familiar face back in Manchester — but this time he’s the main man. Let’s see how the Maresca era kicks off.
