Malami condemns EFCC invasion of his properties..
Former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami has accused Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, of unlawfully invading his residences and business premises, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.
Malami, in the statement by his media aide Mohammed Doka, described the action as a “flagrant disregard for the rule of law” and an attempt to harass and intimidate him over his political affiliations.
He alleged that EFCC officials, accompanied by armed security personnel, forcefully entered and marked properties linked to him without presenting any valid court order.
Malami added that two individuals were taken into custody during the operation.
The former minister said the incident occurred shortly after a visit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, raising concerns about the timing and intent of the operation.
Malami also argued that an interim forfeiture order cited by the EFCC had expired and could not justify the agency’s actions, noting that a related case remains pending before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The EFCC, however, denied any wrongdoing.
Spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the marking of the property followed a valid interim forfeiture order issued by a court and was in line with standard law enforcement procedures.
“There is nothing illegal in the matter,” Oyewale said, adding that the action was meant to notify the public of the property’s legal status.
He also rejected claims of a raid, insisting that EFCC operatives were only enforcing a court directive.
