If you live in Oyo and rely on okada after dark, your evenings just changed. No more night rides.
Governor Seyi Makinde has signed Executive Order 002, and it is pretty straightforward: commercial motorcycles, the okadas we all know, can now only operate between 5:30am and 10:30pm across Oyo State.
The order is officially titled “The Registration and Enforcement of Vehicle Registration and Traffic Management in Oyo State”. According to cbinewstv, the point is to tighten up the state’s security architecture and make road enforcement a lot stricter.
Makinde did not mince words about why. He pointed to the recent kidnapping of pupils and students in Oriire local government area, and said the state had to fortify its security framework to prioritise public safety. He recognised the pain and anxiety families are facing while the abductees are still in captivity, and promised his administration is focused on getting them back safely.
His message to residents was simple: stay vigilant, stay united, and do not let fear win. He warned that panic alone could undermine the collective confidence Oyo needs right now.
So, expect more checks, earlier last rides, and a big shift for night-shift workers, students and party-goers who depend on bikes.
