Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that efforts are ongoing to secure the safe return of teachers and students abducted from two schools in Orire Local Government Area of the state, cbinews.tv reports.
The victims, including seven teachers and an unspecified number of students, were kidnapped last Friday, throwing the affected communities into panic and fear.
Speaking to journalists in Ibadan shortly after receiving security briefings, Governor Makinde expressed sympathy with the families affected by the incident and confirmed that sadly, one of the abducted teachers had been killed.
The Governor described the development as painful and challenging, stressing that the government is deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to ensure the remaining victims are rescued safely.
According to him, security agencies are working round the clock, while other behind-the-scenes efforts are also being explored to bring the hostages home.
Meanwhile, tension remains high in the affected communities as residents anxiously wait for the return of their loved ones.
Emotional videos circulating on social media have shown family members making passionate appeals to the government and security agencies for urgent intervention.
