Maikori accuses former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai of persecuting him...
Audu Maikori, founder and Chairman of Chocolate City Entertainment Group, has accused former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai of persecuting him over a tweet he admitted was wrong and later deleted.
Maikori made the allegation on Monday during an appearance on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television.
CBI News reports that he differentiated between prosecution and persecution, claiming his experience under El-Rufai’s administration amounted to the latter.
“El-Rufai persecuted me for a wrong tweet I acknowledged and took down. He organised for me to be abducted,” Maikori alleged.
While accepting responsibility for the inaccurate post, he described the state government’s response as excessive.
“A governor shouldn’t do the job of the police. My driver confessed he had lied about the information he gave me,” he said.
Maikori further claimed that after his release by the police, attempts were allegedly made to link him to unrelated incidents.
“I was let go by the police, and the next weekend, El-Rufai was trying to link my tweet with the possible death of 7 people,” he stated.
Meanwhile, El-Rufai is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over financial allegations.
Reports indicate that he voluntarily presented himself at the EFCC headquarters on Monday following an invitation from the anti-graft agency.
