French President Emmanuel Macron has arrived in Ethiopia for crucial talks with African Union and United Nations leaders, as global attention intensifies on security, diplomacy and economic partnerships in the Horn of Africa.
According to reports by cbinews.tv, French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Addis Ababa on Wednesday for a series of high-level diplomatic engagements, including a trilateral meeting at the African Union headquarters alongside UN Secretary-General António Guterres and AU Commission Chairman Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
Macron was received at Bole International Airport by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, marking the French leader’s third official visit to Ethiopia since 2019.
Following the arrival, Abiy Ahmed shared a message on X, referring to Macron as “my brother” and describing the visit as a reflection of the strong diplomatic ties between both nations. He added that the leaders were preparing for “meaningful conversations,” highlighting the significance of the visit amid growing geopolitical interest in the Horn of Africa.
Macron’s trip comes at a time of heightened diplomatic activity across the region, where concerns over Red Sea security, regional tensions and shifting alliances continue to shape international engagement.
Ethiopia, which has faced years of internal conflict and economic challenges, has been strengthening efforts to rebuild its economy and deepen strategic partnerships with global allies. France has also been increasing its political and economic presence in East Africa, positioning itself as a key European partner in the region.
Reports indicate that discussions during the visit are expected to focus on development cooperation, regional peace and stability, investment opportunities, and cultural exchange between both countries.
The trilateral meeting involving Macron, Guterres and Youssouf at the African Union headquarters is also expected to address broader continental and international concerns, as world powers continue to recalibrate their engagement in the Horn of Africa.
