A routine security meeting ended in tragedy. Now, MACBAN is demanding answers and calling for those responsible for the killing of its Benue State Chairman to be brought to justice.
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has strongly condemned the killing of its Benue State Chairman, Alhaji Ardo Risku, describing the incident as both shocking and deeply disturbing.
In a statement signed by the association's National President, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, MACBAN said it was devastated to learn of Risku's death and has called for an immediate and transparent investigation into what happened.
According to the association, Alhaji Ardo Risku had attended a security meeting organised by authorities in Ohimini Local Government Area, where community leaders gathered to discuss ways to improve peace and security.
However, MACBAN claims that less than an hour after the meeting, Risku and another man were ambushed by gunmen in Okudu village. Both were reportedly shot several times and killed.
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the incident and says investigations are already underway to identify and arrest those behind the attack.
MACBAN says the circumstances surrounding the killing raise serious questions. The association also pointed to reports that one of the late chairman's children, who is a lawyer, was attacked in a separate incident just days before the fatal shooting.
The group is urging security agencies to leave no stone unturned, insisting that everyone involved in the killing must be identified and prosecuted.
It also warned that attacks on community leaders and peace advocates could undermine ongoing efforts to promote reconciliation and peaceful coexistence across communities.
MACBAN extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of Alhaji Ardo Risku, its members in Benue State, and everyone affected by what it described as a painful and tragic loss.
