Lukman expresses disappointment, faults APC direction...
Former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has expressed disappointment with the current state of the party, saying it has deviated from its founding ideals.
CBI News reports that Lukman, now a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), spoke during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday.
The former APC chieftain said recent developments within the party have fallen short of the vision that led to its formation.
“I can tell you, I feel disappointed having been part of the founding members of the APC, and knowing the vision that pushed us to form the APC. To see where APC is today, is quite disappointing,” he said.
Lukman also criticised the party’s consensus arrangements across states, claiming many have failed.
“If you do a check, you find out that all the consensus they have done across the states have collapsed,” he stated.
He noted that while attention is often on opposition parties, the APC itself is grappling with internal contradictions that could lead to a major crisis.
“The ruling party is also faced with its own internal contradictions, which is producing the kind of discomfort that will lead to the crisis that they may not have foreseen,” Lukman said.
Lukman emphasised that politics remains a contest of ideas and interests, adding that the ADC is prepared to engage.
“Politics is about contestation, and we are ready to confront the situation as it is. And we believe Nigerian people will make the right choice at the end of the day,” he added.
