Another day, another big-money signing at Anfield, and this one’s been months in the making.
According to cbinews.tv, Liverpool have finally wrapped up the £60m transfer of France Under-21 centre-back Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.
The deal, reportedly worth up to £60 million ($79 million) was actually agreed back in January, but the 20-year-old has now put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Anfield, with an option for an extra 12 months. That’s all subject to international clearance, mind.
Jacquet should be fit and ready to go when pre-season kicks off. He missed the tail end of last season in France after picking up a shoulder injury in February, but that’s all behind him now.
Speaking to Liverpool’s website on Wednesday, Jacquet couldn’t hide his excitement: “I feel really good, the first impressions are good and I am very happy to start here,” he said. “It’s a big dream for me.”
For those who don’t know him, Jacquet came through the youth ranks at Ligue 1 side Rennes and made 33 senior appearances for them. He spent the 2024/25 season out on loan at Clermont, getting some solid minutes under his belt.
Big move for the Reds, and for the young Frenchman.
