CBI News takes you Live to the UN General Assembly. The UNGA holds a commemorative meeting to mark the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, in New York City on Wednesday, March 25,2026.
The annual session honours over 15 million Africans subjected to the transatlantic slave trade over four centuries.
Speakers include the President of the 80th session of the General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and member state delegates.
Established by the General Assembly in 2007, the day highlights the crimes of the slave trade and the resistance of enslaved Africans. It also promotes education about the legacy of slavery and efforts to address racism, inequality and modern forms of slavery.
