Lightning Strike Kills Police Inspector on Duty in Maiduguri, Borno State

Tragedy struck in Maiduguri after a police inspector attached to the Borno State Police Command was killed by a lightning strike while carrying out official duties during a rainstorm.
CBI News learnt that the deceased officer, Inspector Abdulkadir Garba, popularly known as “Buratai,” was reportedly coordinating vehicle parking opposite the Borno State Police Command Headquarters alongside ASP Wazani Adamu when the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, the officers were on routine duty around 2:19 pm when strong winds began to gather ahead of heavy rainfall.
As the weather worsened, the officers attempted to seek shelter, but a loud thunderclap was immediately followed by a lightning strike that hit both men at their duty post.
While ASP Wazani Adamu survived the incident, Inspector Garba sustained partial burns and later died from the impact of the lightning strike.
Colleagues and residents described the late officer as dedicated, hardworking, and committed to service, with news of his death sparking grief across the police community and beyond.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the unpredictable dangers security personnel face while protecting lives and property.
