Sundowns complete a double victory over Tunisia side Esperance..
Colombian forward Brayan Leon scored the decisive goal as Mamelodi Sundowns beat Esperance 1-0 on Saturday to reach the CAF Champions League final with a 2-0 aggregate victory.
The 25-year-old, who joined the South African club from Independiente Medellin three months ago, also netted the only goal in the first leg in Tunisia last weekend.
Sundowns will face Moroccan opposition in the final, either FAR Rabat or Renaissance Berkane. FAR hold a 2-0 advantage ahead of their second leg later on Saturday in Berkane.
Chasing a second African title, Sundowns will host the first leg in Pretoria on May 15, with the return match scheduled for May 24 in Morocco.
In front of a sell-out 40,000 crowd at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, clear scoring chances were limited. Esperance goalkeeper Bechir Ben Said denied Leon with a one-handed save in the first half.
However, Ben Said later conceded a penalty after fouling Leon while attempting to clear a throw-in. The goalkeeper saved Leon’s initial spot kick, but the striker reacted quickly to convert the rebound in the 35th minute.
Esperance nearly equalised before halftime when a cross struck Florian Danho and rebounded off the crossbar.
The second half saw few openings until late efforts from Marcelo Allende and Jayden Adams were stopped by Ben Said.
Esperance introduced teenage forwards Aboubacar Diakite and Jack Diarra in the closing stages, but Sundowns held firm to secure their place in the final.
In Berkane, Morocco
The south African team will face the winner between Moroccan teams Renaissance Berkane v FAR Rabat.
FAR lead Rabat 2-0 on aggregate.
