LASTMA tells motorists to drive responsibly at Easter
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has urged motorists to avoid unsafe and irresponsible driving practices during the Easter celebrations.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who made the appeal in a statement on Sunday, warned that the festive period typically brings increased human and vehicular movement across Lagos.
“As Lagos anticipates the customary surge in movement associated with the Easter season, LASTMA issues a firm advisory to motorists, urging elevated vigilance, discipline and compliance with traffic regulations,” he said.
He cautioned against driving under the influence of alcohol, excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking and other behaviours that could lead to avoidable accidents.
Bakare-Oki said that festive periods place added pressure on transport networks, requiring motorists to exercise restraint.
He said to ensure smooth movement during the holiday, the agency had deployed additional officers to major traffic corridors, transport hubs, highways, intersections, business districts, recreational centres and religious venues across the state.
He added that officers had been directed to increase surveillance, enforce compliance and respond promptly to traffic disruptions.
He urged commercial drivers, transport unions, fleet managers and logistics operators to step up awareness campaigns on the risks of overloading, speeding and substance abuse.
The LASTMA boss said the measure will help to prevent loss of lives and property.
