Another building collapse in Alakija? Not so fast. LASEMA says the viral reports are false, and they’ve got the receipts.
There’s been no fresh building collapse in Alakija, Lagos, despite what you might have seen flying around social media. That’s the word from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, cbinews.tv reports.
In a statement on Thursday, LASEMA Permanent Secretary Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu called the circulating reports “false and misleading”.
As soon as the claims surfaced online, LASEMA sent officials to check the alleged site. After a thorough assessment, they found no evidence of another building coming down.
Oke-Osanyintolu didn’t mince words. He urged residents to double-check information before hitting share, warning that false emergency reports can actually get in the way of real rescue work.
He thanked Lagosians for staying alert but stressed the need to use official channels when reporting emergencies. That way, first responders can verify incidents before panic spreads.
The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through quick, coordinated responses.
“Under the leadership of Mr Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, LASEMA and all emergency response agencies remain fully committed to protecting lives and property through prompt, coordinated and professional emergency response,” the statement added.
The clarification comes after a tragic two-storey building collapse in the same community recently. That incident at Alakija Bus Stop in Satellite Town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, left nine people dead and 27 others injured.
The earlier collapse sparked a massive multi-agency rescue operation that ran for two days before emergency teams recovered all the victims trapped under the rubble.
