Lagos Police Ramp up Security for Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day Festivities

Double celebration, double the security — Lagos isn’t taking any chances this holiday.
So, it’s looking like Lagos is on high alert this week. The Lagos State Police Command has rolled out some serious security plans ahead of both Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day, and honestly, they’re covering all bases.
According to a statement shared on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, Commissioner of Police Mr Fatai Tijani said officers are being deployed en masse to key spots across the state. This comes straight from the top — the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, wants every Eid prayer ground, recreation centre, and vulnerable location properly secured.
What does that actually look like on the ground? Think police operatives at worship centres, highways, motor parks, parks, critical infrastructure, linking roads, and just about every strategic point you can name. The goal? Keep lives and property safe while everyone enjoys the festivities.
CP Tijani isn’t leaving it there. He’s told Area Commanders, DPOs, Tactical Commanders, Police Mobile Force, and Counter Terrorism Units to step up visibility policing and anti-crime patrols. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, CBRN operatives, and traffic personnel are also in on the operation.
The brief is clear: manage crowds, keep traffic flowing, and lock down security at entry and exit points, highways, and major city centres. But Tijani also had a word for his officers — stay professional, civil, and courteous while on duty. No heavy-handedness.
He sent warm wishes to Muslims marking Eid-el-Kabir, hoping for a peaceful, joyful, and crime-free Sallah. And since 2026 Children’s Day lands at the same time, he didn’t forget the kids — urging young people to shun violence, stick to positive values, and stay security conscious.
For the rest of us in Lagos, the message is simple: stay vigilant. Spot anything suspicious? Report it to the nearest police station. And if you’re travelling or driving during the celebrations, cooperate with officers on the roads so everyone gets to celebrate safely.
