Lagos Gives Computer Village Traders Quit Notice

The Lagos State Government has set an 18-month deadline for Ikeja’s Computer Village traders to move to the Katangowa ICT Market in Agbado/Oke-Odo.

The Lagos State Government has issued a firm 18-month deadline for traders at the bustling Computer Village in Ikeja to relocate to the long-awaited Katangowa ICT Market in the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area.

CBI News reports that the announcement was made on Tuesday, September 23, by Gbolahan Oki, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, during a stakeholders’ meeting with market executives and shop owners.

“The government wants your cooperation to ensure the relocation comes to pass. The time is now. We have to make the project a reality. The relocation period is 18 months,” Oki told the gathering.

Oki explained that the 15-hectare Katangowa site has been fully prepared with modern infrastructure and facilities to support the ICT trade.

He noted that the relocation first proposed in 2006 has been repeatedly delayed by development challenges but is now set to finally take shape under the current administration.

According to Oki, the existing Computer Village in Ikeja was originally designated as a residential area before it was informally converted into one of Africa’s largest technology hubs without proper government approval.

He stressed that the move is part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to regulate urban development and provide a more organized trading environment.

“The governor is passionate about infrastructure development and wants you to be aware of the relocation. Katangowa is a place chosen for everything relating to this market. It is near all the materials you need for your business,” Oki assured traders.

CBI News also reports that the Katangowa ICT Market is designed to accommodate thousands of traders, offering dedicated spaces for electronics, phone accessories, computer hardware, and software services, as well as improved road access and parking facilities.

The Lagos State Government urged all stakeholders to cooperate to ensure a smooth transition, promising continuous engagement with traders to address concerns as the countdown to relocation begins.
