LIRS extends tax return filing deadline to April 14...
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns by two weeks, moving it from April 1 to April 14, 2026.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr Ayodele Subair.
Subair explained that the statutory deadline for filing individual annual tax returns is March 31 each year, but the extension was granted to give taxpayers more time to complete their submissions.
According to him, the additional time will enable individuals to prepare and submit accurate tax returns.
He also urged residents to prioritise compliance with tax obligations.
“Individuals must give priority to the timely filing of their annual income tax returns. Compliance should be embedded as a routine personal practice,” Subair said.
The LIRS chairman reiterated that electronic filing through the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method for submitting annual returns.
He noted that manual submissions have been completely phased out, meaning all taxpayers must file through the official portal.
Individuals are therefore required to submit their tax returns via the LIRS eTax portal: https://etax.lirs.net.
Subair described the eTax platform as secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24 hours a day, encouraging taxpayers to take advantage of the system.
He also advised individuals to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly captured when filing their returns to avoid processing issues.
