It was a clear show of strength in Lagos politics as Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda stormed to victory in the APC primaries, securing a decisive win that had supporters buzzing long before the final vote was announced.
According to cbinews.tv, the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primary for Apapa Constituency I.
She didn’t just win — she dominated the contest, polling an impressive 2,926 votes to comfortably defeat three other contenders in a keenly watched exercise organised under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The primary, held at Ijora Oloye Nursery and Primary School in Ijora on Wednesday, got underway around 1:00 pm and played out peacefully despite a large turnout of delegates and party supporters.
Security was visibly tight, with operatives from the DSS, police, and NSCDC on ground to maintain order as delegates and agents began arriving as early as 9:00 am.
The race featured four aspirants: Meranda, Esan Adedotun, Mike Egbayelo, and Elizabeth Toluwalope. But from the moment she arrived at about 12:45 pm, Meranda was greeted with loud cheers from supporters already confident of her chances. She simply told them, “I thank you all for the support; it is massive.”
Supporters and party stakeholders were equally vocal after the result. APC youth leader in Ijora, Adams Aremu, described the day as a “victory day”, saying Meranda’s grassroots reach and community projects gave her a clear edge.
Another party executive, Joseph Layode, went as far as suggesting she could eventually rise to become Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, praising her performance and connection with constituents.
For delegate Folasade Ojomo, the message from the ballot was simple: continuity. She said the constituency was better served by keeping faith with Meranda’s leadership.
In an additional showing of strength from an earlier ward-level exercise across five wards in Apapa Constituency I, Meranda also secured 6,062 votes, leaving her closest rival, Ayo Vaughan, far behind on 1,385 votes.
Reacting to her victory, Meranda dedicated the win to party members and constituents, saying she was deeply grateful for the trust placed in her. She emphasised that the mandate belonged to everyone who shares her vision of progress, unity, and effective representation.
She also pledged renewed commitment going forward, saying she would continue working tirelessly for the peace, progress, and prosperity of her constituency.
