Man jailed 18 Months for defrauding Sterling Bank.....
A Lagos State High Court has sentenced a man to 18 months in prison for defrauding Sterling Bank of 30 million naira.
Justice O.A. Fadipe of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja convicted Adebisi Ridwan Ayodeji on a one-count charge of stealing, following his prosecution by Nigeria's anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Ayodeji was initially arraigned before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo and later re-arraigned before Fadipe, with the trial starting afresh on March 3, 2023.
According to the charge, Ayodeji fraudulently converted 30 million naira belonging to Sterling Bank Plc to his own use on or about Sept. 15, 2021, in Lagos.
He pleaded not guilty, prompting a full trial during which prosecution counsel S.I. Suleiman called three witnesses and tendered documentary evidence.
In a judgment delivered on Feb. 24, 2026, Fadipe sentenced Ayodeji to 18 months’ imprisonment and ordered him to pay restitution of 23,677,107.05 naira, representing the outstanding balance, to the bank in addition to the custodial sentence.
