Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, reveals that 17 LASTMA officers died on duty in 2025....
The Lagos State government said it has paid 40 million naira in support to families of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel who died in active service.
The special adviser to the Lagos governor on transportation, Sola Giwa, said the support was approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu following LASTMA’s 25th anniversary in July 2025, when the risks and sacrifices faced by officers were highlighted.
Under the scheme, 20 families each received 2 million naira, Giwa said.
He described the payment as a recognition of duty and sacrifice rather than compensation for loss.
“No value can equal the price of a life, but this is a tangible expression of state recognition,” he said at a financial presentation ceremony held in honour of the officers.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, said the number of traffic officers who died last year, underscores the dangers faced by personnel on Lagos roads.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki said the Programme aims to honour fallen colleagues and support their families
He reiterated LASTMA's commitment to improving road safety across the state.
