A lively cooking session at a party almost ended in disaster after two young ladies fell into a soakaway pit.
In a viral video shared on X, cited by CBI News, the ladies were seen preparing Semovita in a large pot set on firewood.
Two of them stirred the thick meal with long pestles, while others supported them with effort and excitement.
However, as they stamped their feet repeatedly to balance the pot and keep the heavy mixture turning, the ground beneath them suddenly caved in. Unknown to them, they had been standing on top of a cracked soakaway, which broke apart, plunging them into the pit.
The shocking incident drew widespread comments from Nigerians online. While some found the scene distressing, others criticised the carelessness that led to the accident.
The incident comes at a time when unsafe soakaway structures remain a major concern across Nigeria. Many have warned about the risks of standing, building, or cooking over weak or cracked septic tanks, which could collapse at any moment.
