Labour Party considers legal action against Julius Abure over alleged unauthorized use of party logo...
The Labour Party has said it may take legal action against its former National Chairman, Julius Abure, over allegations that he is still using the party’s logo and managing its social media platforms without authorisation.
CBI News reports that the issue emerged in Abuja on Monday, April 20, 2026, as the party’s National Working Committee led by Nenadi Usman raised concerns over the continued operation of online accounts linked to the former leadership.
Party officials expressed displeasure that some social media pages believed to be controlled by the former executives remain active and are still portraying themselves as official channels of the party.
One of such accounts on 𝕏, identified as @LabourpartyNGR_, is alleged to be publishing statements not aligned with the current party leadership.
The controversy intensified after a post claimed that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso were preparing to contest elections under the party, a claim the leadership immediately dismissed as false.
A media aide to the chairman, Ken Asogwa, said the party had already involved the Nigeria Police Force in efforts to recover its verified 𝕏 account, LabourPartyNG, which is also reportedly still under disputed control.
He explained that the matter is being handled by the Force Intelligence Department, adding that individuals including Abure and Umar Farouk have been cooperating with investigators by providing information on their involvement with the accounts.
Other disputed platforms include a Facebook page, Labour Party-Nig, with about 12,000 followers, and another 𝕏 account, LabourPartyNG, which has a larger audience.
The party said it has repeatedly issued public warnings to distance itself from such platforms and to prevent misinformation, especially following recent online posts that caused confusion among members and the public.
It further stated that, for now, it does not operate any official social media accounts as it continues efforts to regain full control of its digital platforms.
