The Kano State Government has alleged that former governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may be quietly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The allegation was made by the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, during an appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Wednesday, cbinews.tv reports.
Bature claimed that recent political meetings and alignments across the country suggest that behind-the-scenes moves are already shaping the 2027 political battle in favour of President Tinubu.
He stated that Kwankwaso is “indirectly or strategically” working towards Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The Kano Government spokesman also alleged that opposition figures are struggling to form a united front ahead of the elections, insisting that Kwankwaso and Peter Obi are unlikely to work together politically due to their differing ideologies and political interests.
According to him, these differences could make opposition collaboration difficult as political activities ahead of 2027 begin to gather momentum.
Bature further argued that Peter Obi may face challenges gaining political ground in Kano because of the state’s conservative political structure.
