Billions for a house, cars, medicals and holidays? That’s what a former Kano anti-corruption boss is alleging about Kwankwaso.
So, things are heating up in Kano politics. A former Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, has come out with some pretty heavy allegations against ex-Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, cbinews.tv reports.
Muhyi claims Kwankwaso diverted billions of naira from the state treasury for personal expenses. And yes, he put it out there himself — first in a video that went round social media, which he later confirmed to journalists was from him.
According to Muhyi, Kwankwaso allegedly got ₦1 billion in December 2023 to build a personal residence. He didn’t say if it’s the same house the former governor currently lives in, though.
But that’s not all. Muhyi also alleged that within that same period, Kwankwaso received ₦525 million for an office construction. Then there’s ₦1.240 billion and another ₦400 million supposedly collected for buying official vehicles.
And it goes on. In June 2024, Muhyi claims Kwankwaso got ₦100.8 million for medical expenses and ₦510.213 million for holiday-related expenses.
The former anti-graft boss said he’s worried about these alleged transactions and hinted there’s more he plans to reveal about how public funds were handled during Kwankwaso’s tenure.
He’s not backing down either. Muhyi basically dared Kwankwaso to sue him if the claims aren’t true.
“I challenge him to take me to court if what I have said about the alleged diversion of Kano State funds is untrue,” he said.
On the other side, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has responded — sort of. Their spokesperson, Dr Habibu Muhammad Sale Mailemo, told cbinews.tv they’re aware of the allegations and are looking into them.
“We are studying the allegations and will respond appropriately. That response may include legal action against Barrister Muhyi,” Mailemo said.
At the time of this report, Kwankwaso himself hadn’t personally said anything about the allegations.
