Amid growing political speculation, Rabiu Kwankwaso has broken his silence — dismissing claims of a political switch and making it clear that no final decisions have been made.
CBI News reports that former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has denied reports of an imminent political realignment within the African Democratic Congress, insisting that neither he nor his political allies have taken any definitive position regarding their future.
In a statement released on Saturday, Kwankwaso described circulating claims about his alleged plans as misleading, stressing that consultations among key stakeholders are still ongoing.
While acknowledging internal challenges within the ADC, Kwankwaso pointed to recent legal developments, including a Supreme Court ruling affirming the National Working Committee led by David Mark, but also returning aspects of the dispute to the High Court — a move he said has intensified uncertainty within the party.
He further noted that the situation has been complicated by a Federal High Court decision nullifying the party’s recent convention, as well as moves by the Attorney General of the Federation to seek the party’s deregistration.
Kwankwaso revealed that broad consultations are underway across political platforms, including discussions with stakeholders from the National Democratic Congress and Peoples Redemption Party, to determine the best path forward.
“All speculations about my political position or ambition are premature and unfounded,” he stated.
Addressing rumours about the 2027 presidential race, Kwankwaso clarified that the ADC has neither zoned its presidential ticket nor selected any candidate, adding that he has not declared any intention to run or endorsed anyone.
Reflecting on his political track record, he reiterated his commitment to party unity and national interest, citing his past support for Muhammadu Buhari after the 2014 APC primaries and for Atiku Abubakar during the 2019 PDP presidential campaign.
Kwankwaso also explained his absence from recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings, attributing it to unavoidable personal commitments, and assured that he had formally communicated with party leadership.
He concluded by reaffirming that any final decision regarding his political future will be made public through official channels at the appropriate time.
