From Anfield to the Bernabeu for free — Konate’s emotional Liverpool exit is now Real Madrid’s gain.
Right, so it’s official — Ibrahima Konate is a Real Madrid player. According to cbinews.tv, Los Blancos have snapped up the France centre-back on a four-year deal that runs until 30 June 2030.
The 27-year-old walks out of Liverpool at the end of June as a free agent. Why? Talks over a new contract just never clicked — cbinews.tv reports there was a real gap between what Konate wanted and what the club were willing to pay. Tough one for Reds fans.
Real Madrid confirmed they’ve reached an agreement with Konate, who’s currently with France at the 2026 World Cup. He originally joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig back in 2021 for £35m and went on to make 183 appearances, picking up a Premier League, an FA Cup and two League Cups along the way. Not a bad haul.
His exit’s been a bit emotional, to be fair. After Liverpool’s final Premier League game against Brentford on 24 May, Konate said he was “deeply saddened that I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye” to the Anfield crowd. “At that moment, I didn’t know it would be my final time wearing this shirt in front of you,” he added. Heartbreaking stuff if you’re a Liverpool fan.
He’s not arriving at the Bernabeu alone, either. This is all part of a big summer shake-up under Jose Mourinho, who’s back for his second spell as Real Madrid boss. cbinews.tv notes they’ve also bagged Bernardo Silva on a free from Man City and dropped £52m on Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella. After a trophyless season, Madrid clearly mean business.
