The Black Lion roars in Phoenix, targets DuBois and Anthony Joshua.
PHOENIX, Ariz. — Kingsley “The Black Lion” Ibeh delivered a dominant statement performance on Saturday night, stopping Dante “The Inferno” Stone in the eighth round to claim the “King of the West” heavyweight crown.
The highly anticipated “King of the West” event, presented by Whitfield Haydon in association with Toro Promotions, Inc., took place at The Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, and featured some of the region’s top boxing talent.
Ibeh (17-3-1, 15 KOs), the Phoenix-based heavyweight originally from Nigeria, thoroughly controlled Dante Stone (21-3, 13 KOs) before securing the eighth-round stoppage victory.
With the win, Ibeh successfully defended his World Boxing Council (WBC) FECARBOX Heavyweight Championship while adding the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Americas Heavyweight Championship and the Arizona State Heavyweight Championship to his collection.
The victory was especially significant as Stone had never been stopped in his professional career prior to facing Ibeh.
Ibeh entered the bout with strong momentum following his competitive 10-round split decision against world-rated heavyweight Jarrell Miller earlier this year at Madison Square Garden.
Speaking to CBI News after the fight, Ibeh revealed that his game plan centred on matching Stone's aggression and defeating him at his own style of boxing.
“The goal was to beat him at his own game, which we did,” Ibeh told CBI News. “All respect to Stone, but he was just in the way and a stone we needed to move out. This means bigger opportunities. I want ‘DDD’ (‘Dynamite’ Daniel Dubois) next!”
Ibeh also revealed exclusively to CBI News, his dream matchup against fellow Nigerian-born heavyweight Anthony Joshua, a fight he believes could become one of the biggest events ever staged in Nigeria.
“I hope the fight can be made in Nigeria and it will be a massive event,” said Ibeh to CBI News.
The confident heavyweight made it clear that he is prepared to face any challenger as he continues his climb toward world-title contention.
“I am ready to fight anybody, anytime, anywhere,” Ibeh assured CBI News.
“Line ’em up and I will knock 'em out.”
