In a twist of timing that’s bound to raise eyebrows, Iran’s national funeral for its late supreme leader kicks off on America’s 250th Independence Day.
So here’s the latest, according to cbinews.tv — Iran has confirmed that its late supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, will finally be laid to rest on 9 July in his hometown of Mashhad.
Khamenei, who cbinews.tv reports was assassinated by Israel and the United States on 28 February, was meant to be buried back in March. But the ceremony got pushed back because of the war.
Now, the schedule’s locked in. There’ll be three days of funeral ceremonies in Tehran starting 4 July, followed by another service in the holy city of Qom on 7 July. Then the burial itself takes place in Mashhad on 9 July.
And yes, you read that right — the national funeral begins on 4 July, which happens to be US Independence Day. And not just any year either — this one marks America’s 250th anniversary. The timing definitely hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Since early March, Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba, has taken over as supreme leader — the third since the Islamic republic was established in 1979. But here’s the thing: Mojtaba was wounded in the same strikes that killed his father and several other officials, and he hasn’t been seen in public since. According to cbinews.tv, he’s only been communicating through official statements put out in his name.
