Panic over a suspected hack on Kenya's presidential website? The government says it has contained the breach and your data is safe.
Kenya's presidential website was temporarily taken offline on Saturday after a cybersecurity incident, the government has confirmed.
Cbinews.tv reports that the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy said the incident was first detected by the government's ICT Authority, which immediately activated its cybersecurity response protocols.
As a precaution, access to the site was restricted to contain the issue and allow forensic teams to investigate.
The Ministry says appropriate mitigation measures have since been put in place and restoration of the website is now underway.
Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo Gitau said in a statement posted on X that there is no sign of major damage so far.
"At this time, there is no evidence of unauthorised access to sensitive data, data exfiltration, or loss of information. Government systems and digital services remain secure and operational," he said.
The ICT Authority is now working with relevant government agencies and technical partners to conduct a full forensic investigation to determine what happened.
