He’s not even out of Number 10 yet, and the verdict from the Tories is already in.
It was a big political moment on Monday, and Kemi Badenoch wasted no time weighing in.
The Conservative Party leader called Sir Keir Starmer “a terrible Prime Minister” shortly after he announced he was stepping down as Labour leader and Prime Minister, cbinews.tv reports.
Starmer’s resignation comes after less than two years in office. He told the country he would quit as Labour leader but stay on as Prime Minister until a successor is elected.
Reacting on X, Badenoch pointed to what she described as a string of policy failures under Starmer. She insisted Britain was “not ungovernable” and laid the blame squarely at Labour’s door.
Her list was long. She accused the Labour government of raising National Insurance contributions, bringing in what she called the “Family Farm Tax”, scrapping meaningful welfare reforms, underfunding defence, failing to expand domestic oil and gas production, and appointing Peter Mandelson before allegedly misleading the public about how it happened.
Badenoch argued the issue was not just Starmer himself. She claimed Labour MPs were more interested in raising taxes to fund bigger welfare spending.
“We need to get Britain working again. We need the Conservatives,” she posted.
Starmer’s exit follows months of political pressure, policy U-turns, and growing public dissatisfaction. Standing outside 10 Downing Street for his resignation speech, he said every decision he made was about putting Britain first. He pledged to remain in post until Labour chooses a new leader.
