Football fans in Katsina and beyond are in total shock this morning following the sudden passing of Katsina United's new signing, Ozoh Chinedu.
According to a statement released by the club's Media Directorate via its official Facebook page, the former Kano Pillars FC player collapsed during a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes FC at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina, on Tuesday, August 11 2026.
The club, in a statement titled ‘Sad news: Katsina United player Ozoh Chinedu dies during pre-season friendly,’ confirmed that Chinedu suffered a medical emergency mid-match and was immediately rushed to the K-Dara Specialist Hospital in Katsina for urgent attention. Sadly, he was pronounced dead in the early hours of Tuesday, 11 August 2026, despite best efforts by medics.
Chinedu had only just joined Katsina United from Kano Pillars and was gearing up for what many expected to be a big season with the Changi Boys. His death has come as a massive blow to his teammates, coaching crew, management, and supporters.
The club says the exact circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be fully established, with more details expected from medical authorities and his family.
In its tribute, the club prayed: “May God grant his family, teammates, friends, Katsina United FC and the entire football community the strength to bear this painful loss.”
