If you use the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway regularly, here's a quick heads-up for you.
The Lagos State Government has announced a partial traffic diversion around the Kara Bridge axis, and it's all because repair works on the bridge's expansion joint are kicking off tomorrow, Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transportation, as reported by cbinews.tv, the Federal Ministry of Works will be handling the rehabilitation, and the whole thing is expected to last for two weeks.
So, what does this actually mean for you?
For the duration of the works, the existing four-lane carriageway will be temporarily squeezed down to just two lanes along a 1.5-kilometre stretch of the bridge. This is to create a safe work zone for the engineers on site.
The Ministry says to expect moderate traffic build-up around the Fatgbems Turn, especially as some motorists will be making U-turns or trying alternative routes to dodge the delay.
The good news? If you're travelling beyond the Fatgbems Turn towards Ibadan, you should experience little to no disruption.
The advice is pretty simple: plan your journey ahead, consider other routes if you can, obey traffic rules, and please cooperate with the LASTMA and traffic officials who'll be on ground to help ease the flow.
The Ministry has appealed for everyone's understanding, noting that the repairs are crucial to make the Kara Bridge safer and more durable for all road users.
