Kano Residents Rally in Support of Police Boss Amid Calls for Removal
Some residents of Kano have staged a protest in support of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Bakori.
The demonstrators who took to the streets carried placards, commending the Commissioner for his efforts in providing adequate security and safeguarding lives and property in the state.
They said that since Bakori assumed office, crime rates and criminal activities have reduced in the northwest Nigerian state.
This protest comes barely 24 hours after Governor Abba Yusuf called for the removal of the police Commissioner.
CBI News reports that Governor Yusuf had demanded Bakori’s removal after the police withdrew from the 65th Independence Day celebrations at the Sani Abacha Stadium, a move the state government described as “disrespectful.”
Police officials have not publicly responded to the governor’s remarks. Security analysts say the standoff highlights growing tensions between state authorities and federal security agencies in northern Nigeria.
