Saturday’s by-election in Kano just got serious — if you’re in Dawakin Kudu or Warawa, expect the streets to go quiet from noon.
Heads up, Kano residents! The Police have announced a full lockdown of Dawakin Kudu and Warawa LGAs ahead of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election happening this Saturday, 20 June 2026. cbinews.tv
According to the Kano State Police Command, both cars and pedestrians will be restricted from 12pm to 5pm on election day. The move isn’t random — it came out of Wednesday’s Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting, where they agreed it was the best way to keep things calm and credible.
Police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed on Friday that Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori has ordered the full security plan to be rolled out. “The security architecture developed with all ICCES partners will be fully deployed to guarantee a peaceful and orderly electoral process,” he said.
Now, it’s not a total shutdown for everyone. INEC officials, accredited observers, approved media, and essential workers can still move around. For the rest of us in those two LGAs, though, it’s stay put from midday.
Officers are already being posted to polling units, collation centres, and other key spots to protect voters and ballot materials. And the Command isn’t mincing words on malpractice — no vote buying, no ballot box snatching, no spreading fake news. “Anyone caught will be arrested and prosecuted under the Electoral Act,” the statement warned.
Bottom line: keep it peaceful, follow the guidelines, and if you spot anything dodgy, ring the emergency lines.
