Kano Assembly denies impeachment plans against deputy governor...
The Kano State House of Assembly has dismissed reports alleging plans to impeach Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, describing the claims as false and misleading.
CBI News reports that the clarification followed recent controversy sparked by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who, during a radio interview, called on the deputy governor to resign.
Waiya had argued that Gwarzo should step down for failing to follow his principal, Governor Abba Yusuf, in defecting from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to the reports, the spokesperson to the Speaker of the House, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, told journalists in Kano on Saturday that there was no impeachment plan before the Assembly.
He stressed that claims circulating in some media platforms were baseless and did not reflect the position of the legislature.
Shawai explained that the House remains committed to its constitutional responsibilities, focusing on lawmaking and oversight rather than what he described as speculative political manoeuvres.
He also urged the public and the media to verify information before disseminating it, noting that responsible reporting is crucial to sustaining political stability in the state.
“There is absolutely no motion or initiative within the House to remove the deputy governor,” Shawai said.
“These reports are false and should be disregarded by the public. The deputy governor continues to serve in his capacity with full support from the House.
“Our priority is good governance and serving the people of Kano, not circulating rumours.”
