Kano lawmakers approve Garo as new Deputy Governor after screening.
The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State following his screening during plenary.
CBI News reports that the decision was reached during a session presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
The chairman of the ad hoc committee and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, said the nomination became necessary after the resignation of former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
According to the committee, the screening exercise was conducted in line with provisions of the 1999 Constitution.
Garo was subjected to questioning on his educational background, work experience, and understanding of governance.
Lawmakers also verified his certificates and other credentials during the process.
During the exercise, the nominee expressed readiness to take on the responsibilities of office.
He also outlined plans to work closely with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to advance the state’s programmes.
Following the presentation of the committee’s report, lawmakers unanimously adopted the recommendation to confirm Garo as deputy governor.
The confirmation fills the vacancy in the state’s executive arm after Gwarzo’s resignation.
