Fancy 1,000 new eyes and ears in Kaduna’s forests? The state govt is betting on it to chase bandits out and get farmers back to their fields.
So, Kaduna State Government isn’t messing around — they’ve kicked off training for 1,000 forest guards to take the fight directly to bandits hiding out in the bush, cbinews.tv reports.
The plan? These guards will back up the usual security forces by keeping watch on forest activities, gathering intel, and flagging any dodgy movements. Think of them as the local eyes on the ground.
The training started at the Police College in Kaduna, and Governor Uba Sani had his Chief of Staff, Sani Kila, speak on his behalf. His message to the recruits was simple: stay disciplined and keep it professional.
He reckons this move will tighten teamwork between the forest guards and conventional security agencies. The big hope is that safer forests mean farmers can finally return to their farmlands without looking over their shoulders.
Now, these aren’t just random picks. The 1,000 trainees were selected from communities right in known hotspot areas. After a six-week crash course, they’ll be sent straight back to those flashpoints to support ongoing operations.
“The people of Kaduna State are ever ready to answer the call… at the end of the six-week training, these men and women will be deployed back to the flashpoints,” he said.
Where exactly? We’re talking Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Kagarko, Kachia, Chikun, Kajuru and Igabi LGAs — all areas that have seen their fair share of trouble. The state believes this deployment will seriously cut down insecurity.
Kaduna’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shuaibu, added that the guards will work hand-in-glove with security agencies to monitor forests, collect intelligence, and stop bandit attacks before they happen.
He also pointed out that the training is being coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser. It’s all part of a bigger push to secure vulnerable communities and get economic activities buzzing again.
Bottom line from the state govt: they’re doubling down on security and making sure lives and property across Kaduna are protected.
